"Water Lilies" 11X15.5" watercolour on paper 2008

There are many legends about the Water Lilly. Many ancient civilizations held the Water Lilly in high regard for spiritual reasons, however the white Lilly of lower Egypt has special significance to our biblical history. This Lilly’s seeds were ground into powder and used for the making of bread for eating. The process of sowing the seeds involved incasing them in balls of clay and throwing the balls into the water. It is believed that this practice was referenced by the passage in the book of Ecclesiastes
“Cast thy bread upon the waters for thou shalt find it after many days.” Ecclesiastes 11:1
