My six year old Great Grand Daughter Summer,
loves to make snow angels. This year I took a photo of her making a snow angel,
to use on my Christmas card.
While walking on the rocks below our nephews house in Port Aux Basque NL in 2015, I came across two dried up sea urchins which I photographed with the intent of using the images in a painting. I later researched sea urchins and was pleasantly surprised to find images of their skeletons and that they were related to sand dollars.
This tile was submitted to the Canadian Mental Health NS fund raiser Tile Sale 2013
was painted from a photo by Nazaire Simon of an Inukshuk that he built while snow shoeing in Western Labrador
We have a feeder outside our dining room window. Several jays have been coming to the feeder three times a day for the table scraps we put out. If the feeder is empty, they sit in the spruce tree waiting to be fed. Over the years the occasional one has eaten from my husbands hand.
Each year we visit Nova Scotia. Pictou County has lovely beaches. Our favorite is at Lower Barneys River where we many enjoy hours walking the beach looking for sea glass. In this painting I have three of my favorite people, my husband, my daughter and my sister.
Our local arts group is constantly challenging each other to learn new techniques to grow in our painting. For this challenge we had to chose an artist and do a piece using that artists technique. I chose Van Goth and painted a scene of Wabush Labrador by night emulating his Starry Night painting.
Each summer my nephew Chris and family would visit my mother at her summer home in Pictou County Nova Scotia. His daughter loved to play with a tiny tea set, pretending to hold a tea party with mother. For a number of years I have wanted to paint this delightful scene.
Wolves are quite commonly experienced in Labrador West. It is not uncommon to find wolf tracks through your garden in winter. As a project our visual arts group decided to paint an animal,it was only natural for me to choose a wolf.
I painted this from a photo my friend took of her daughter feeding the grey jay at their cabin here in Western Labrador. My gift to her for Mothers Day.
There are many legends about the Water Lilly. Many ancient civilizations held the Water Lilly in high regard for spiritual reasons, however the white Lilly of lower Egypt has special significance to our biblical history. This Lilly’s seeds were ground into powder and used for the making of bread for eating. The process of sowing the seeds involved incasing them in balls of clay and throwing the balls into the water. It is believed that this practice was referenced by the passage in the book of Ecclesiastes “Cast thy bread upon the waters for thou shalt find it after many days.” Ecclesiastes 11:1
This is a little painting I did this summer. It is 5.5x8" mixed media on paper (pen and ink and watercolour) done from photos of the beach in Witless Bay, NL.
Beautiful speckled trout caught in the wilds of Labrador, fried in an old iron frying pan, with potatoes cooking in a saucepan which had belonged to my mother in law. (The past revisited)
As childern in Newfoundland, we loved the smell of fresh baked bread, and rushed to be the first to get a hot slice smothered in eversweet margarine and molasses.
Abby, my brothers granddaughter is the child in this painting which I chose to use for my 2007 Christmas cards. Christmas through the eyes of a child to me is the essence of the Christmas Spirit.
Christmas Glow: a painting of Rudi,my sons dog,it was done from a photo taken in Ottawa,Ontario on Christmas Eve 2004.I used it for my 2005 Christmas cards.
Cheryl Hardy is a Fine Artist from Labrador West Canada. Her love of her craft comes though in her statement "Every day brings some new exciting experience or subject for me to paint.I see the beauty in everyday life, my home and community and love to paint it. While portraiture is one facet of art that I am still developing, I find the challenge very rewarding".
She is a long time member of the Labrador West Visual Arts Association. Her works can be seen in local art shows.
